Civil Rights leader Medger Evers, who 60 years ago today in 1963 was murdered by the KKK. His killer escaped justice for over 30 years before finally being convicted in 1994.
Bass Reeves, the first black US marshal. Throughout his 32 year long career (1875-1907) on the west side of the Mississippi river Reeves captured 3000 felons and killed 14. He still holds the record for most criminals captured by a US marshal ever
