The upper valance, cornice and corbels of a state bed for King James II, by royal joiner, Thomas Roberts in 1688. Upholstered in Genoese velvet with extensive contrasting tufted passementerie, the bed bears his cypher overgilt. The finials are the lion and the unicorn from the royal arms. [1439x630]
Exquisite Mughal salver (tray) in a cloverleaf design. Carved from a single piece of rock crystal. c. 1700 CE. Rock crystals of the size needed to produce such an item are quite rare, as were artisans with the skill to do it. In collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. [2440X2037]
