can a lego torso crack break the entire torso apart?

I have some figures with small torso cracks, is it possible that the crack will become bigger and break the entire figure like in the picture? Should i be worried and did it ever happend to you? (Not my picture btw)

The Fellowship of the Ring

What about it?

The Fellowship from the Rivendell set, together with the nine glow in the dark mushrooms included in the set. The three different mushroom builds made me think of the short/medium/normal legs given to the Fellowship members. Coincidence?
