Anyone else notice a boom in yellow jackets over the past month? (Northwestern mn)

I have about 10 acres of land, and in the last month I've had 3 massive nests pop up practically overnight. One cropped up under my front stairs a little bigger than a football, then when I had that one dealt with by an exterminator, another cropped up in the eves of my old garage within a within a week, almost the same time another popped up 6 feet away on the same side. Which I ended up dealing with myself, because both the exterminator and I thought they were from the same colony. None of the hives were small, all of them were aggressive. Normally I don't care, but they have cropped up in high traffic areas. I also went to a meeting a few weeks ago, which was hosted outside someone's home and there were hundreds all over the yard. The pic is the aftermath of the latest one I had to deal with.
