Why did Pam invite her mom to the office?

I have never seen my coworkers’ parents at the office and seems unprofessional to have them visit. I just always found it odd.

In the booze cruise episode when Micheal and the captain were kind of fighting the whole time; who do think was in the wrong. I personally think that the captain was being an ass but I am also pretty biased. What do you think?
