Not me in the pic (lost my pics from that night), but I totally wore that blue one to my senior prom in 1988.

By the Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Elect of God - Haile Selassie I, under a golden lace canopy, following his coronation in Addis Ababa on November 2, 1930.

Haile Selassie, whose name translates to "Power of the Trinity," was originally known as Lij Tafari Makonnen during his childhood. He became the Negusa Nagast, the King of Kings and Emperor of Ethiopia, reigning from 1930 to 1974. He hailed from the Solomonic dynasty, which traces its lineage back to Emperor Menelik I, believed to be the offspring of King Solomon and Queen Makeda of Sheba. In 1974, he was ousted from power through a military coup orchestrated by the Marxist–Leninist junta, the Derg. On August 27, 1975, Haile Selassie was murdered while under house arrest. An assassin, commissioned by the revolutionary government, suffocated him with a pillow within his Addis Ababa palace. On September 27, 1916, Empress Zewditu declared Tafari Makonnen as the Crown Prince and designated heir to the throne. The title "Ras," meaning "head," is a noble rank akin to a duke, frequently translated as "prince." On February 11, 1917, he was officially crowned as prince and adopted the name Ras Tafari Makonnen. From this origin stems the term "Rastafari," occasionally referred to as Rastafarianism, a faith that emerged in Jamaica in the 1930s. It's categorized as a new religious movement and a social movement by religious scholars. Rastafarians hold Haile Selassie in great regard, a portion view him as the Second Coming of Jesus and the embodiment of Jah, while others perceive him as a human prophet who profoundly acknowledged Jah's essence within each individual. "Princes shall come out of Egypt, Ethiopia shall stretch forth her hand unto God. Oh thou God of Ethiopia, thou God of divine majesty, thy spirit come within our hearts to dwell in the parts of righteousness. That the hungry be fed, the sick nourished, the aged protected, and the infant cared for. Teach us love and loyalty as it is in Zion." — Opening passage of a common Rasta prayer
