Cookies are my nemesis

I consider myself a decent baker. I can make bread and cake and a bunch of other stuff. I rock a cinnamon bun. But I don't think I've ever made good cookies. They elude me completely. Every couple years I forget that I suck at cookies and try again. They never work out. I followed a very simple recipe for these tonight and got this result. Can you tell what went wrong so I can maybe learn for next time? They're supposed to be multiple oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, not the one lump of something you see pictures.

First try making a cake without using a box. It turned out OK! Very spongy, but way too sweet.
