I seriously need some help here guys: what should I do about the fire brigade set?

Hey guys so I’m up a creek here I just managed to get a fire brigade I was so excited but now I have an issue: both the dark reds and browns are brittle, what should I do? Should I A) change all the dark red to Red and the browns with gray (or another brown) we Brick the reproductions. I really want to use dark red but it’s a ticking time bomb. What are your suggestions (please give a serious answer I want to salvage this set)
