You guys my Technic Defender set build tanked

You guys I have not built many mechanical lego sets .. the only one I built before this set is the mars rover and I built it just fine no issues no problems But I am I Lego noob .. and this is my second mechanical build And though I have built quite a few Lego sets by now but nothing mechanical like I mentioned .. getting to the point for the first time when I was building this set I was having a very hard time telling the difference between “black” and “dark grey” pieces and most of all I was having trouble telling the difference between the black and the dark grey gears especially .. And I only realised this when I reached step 302 and after releasing I saw that I had screwed up all the gears right from the first step onwards which was step no. 3 And now I had to systematically unassembled it all till I could fix the problem Though I knew it was just going to be better if I just started from scratch instead but I didn’t start from scratch Anyway getting to the point I just finished the set and this is how it ended up .. and I know the problem is in pack 1 But I don’t know what to do .. how can I deal with it .. any suggestions would be helpful ..

Can’t comment on the post anymore, but does anyone know how I could build a mech to look bulky and functional while not being to blocky like this? I’ve planned a mech myself but - when I think about it - it would have really skinny noodle arms when isn’t what I’m looking for.
