Found this squirrel eating this smaller squirrel in front of my house

Does anyone know why this might happen? Not sure if the smaller one was already dead before the other one started eating it or what happened but definitely did not think squirrels ate meat let alone their own species 😬

So I was in my garage this morning and in the corner of my eye I caught a squirrel with a whole other squirrel in its mouth. It climbed up a poll and down a powerline onto my roof. My initial thoughts were “awwww a mom is carrying her child in its mouth back to to crib”. Then, it dawned on me the more I thought about it…
