Review

Combat is built around timing the right Vision call: each spirit is available for only a few turns, so players must decide whether to burn the summon for burst damage or save it for a boss mechanic that rewards careful resource juggling. Exploration rewards patient navigation; hidden paths and crumbling ruins require backtracking with newly acquired party abilities, and towns change between visits as the ruin advances. The art keeps the 16-bit palette but layers parallax depth and weather effects, while the score mixes chiptune leads with swelling orchestral swells that rise only during Vision summons.

Started out thinking it’d be another snooze, but that first fight in the sewer had me mashing buttons just to keep the party alive. A two-second window on that poisoned blade hit felt tighter than most modern stuff.

The Vision summons actually saved my skin once when the boss’s second phase wiped everyone but the tank. I threw the light one in at the last second and watched the numbers flip. Felt fair, not cheap.

FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE still drags its feet between those big moments though. The towns are small and the text boxes take forever. If the fights keep this sharp I’ll stick with it, otherwise I’m out.
