I'm Brazilian and this 22yo woman lives in a city right next to mine. She gained notoriety by claiming to be a NASA astronaut and a future participant in missions to the Moon and Mars. In June 2025, she posted on Instagram that she had been selected for a 2025 astronaut class (whatever that means) and that she would take part in a spaceflight in 2029. Huge Brazilian news outlets have shared her story and she even appeared on Forbes and presented a TED Talk, y'all 😭 this week however, NASA denied these claims and said that she has no official affiliation with them. It was also revealed by fact-checks that she did not complete her physics degree at our local renowned university and that her claims about studying at institutions like MIT and Columbia could not be verified. When I tell you guys that I IMMEDIATELY thought of this sub when I saw this pic on the news!! I had to go to her insta to share it here. The NERVE some people have!!
