New to baking, this is my second loaf

While following Julia Child's uncovered pain de mie recipe I decided to give it an egg wash before baking. Maybe that's why it didn't rise as it baked? Still pretty tasty.

I made a sourdough starter from a recipe written by Pliny the Elder. Here's the resulting bread. The starter is a beast.

I’m trying to make carrot cake and I’ve used this recipe before and it turned out great last time. This time however I used baking strips for the first time but I’m not sure if this happened because of them. The outside of the cake is very moist and soft but the center is dry and crackly. I’ve only dabbled in baking over the last year so I definitely have a lot to work on but I’m pretty proud of this. I followed Sally’s recipe!
