Do you push the tabs in on cling film/foil rolls?

Was at my in-laws for dinner last night, and some left-overs were getting wrapped up in cling film, when I noticed the tabs weren’t pushed in & MIL was fighting with the cling film 😂 Asked why they didn’t push the tabs in on the side of the box, and none of my wife’s extended family (grandparents, siblings, cousins etc.) had any idea what they were. I thought this was completely obvious and something everyone does, but the in-laws were acting like I’d just discovered running water.

Yesterday I discovered this stained glass window of Ripon Cathedral and as it turns out Ripon cathedral’s remarkable crypt is the oldest part of any cathedral in England. This small chapel, hidden underground, was a key feature of the first church built here by Saint Wilfrid in 672.
