How would you go about preserving a live edge that will ultimately be used as part of a guitar?
What about it?
This piece of wood will eventually be the body of a guitar!
My initial thought is to use several very thin layers of epoxy, but after the first go I realized that is going to pool up pretty in the low spots. That may just have to happen, but I wanted to check for some advice before going further
The ideal result would be completely secure bark that can survive a LOT of handling but still has the texture and feel of bark.
Any ideas?
Sealing a Wood Cabinet for a Terrarium
What about it?
We have tropical house plants and I want to build a terrarium. I bought a wood hutch/cabinet before considering the humidity aspect. I'm curious if anyone has suggestions on sealing the wood to prevent mold. I bought flex seal liquid rubber after a little research but I'm skeptical about how well it's going to work. Has anyone tired this before ? I think it might be more hassle then it's worth.
Old Ironsides glued up all right
What about it?
First time making a table top and I decided to go the completely inadvisable route and attempt to build a 3 inch thick solid white oak coffee table. I thought it would be cool to see a log-like amount of end grain.
Let me tell you, it was a real treat milling these f***ers down from basically railroad ties. At 32 x 64 I think it weighs somewhere around 200lbs, not including the base.
Got plenty of cleanup work to do on the edges but I think the glue up came out all right considering what I was working with. Maybe it’ll turn into a taco in a year but these babies have been drying since 2020 so I got my fingers crossed…
