Found this injured butterfly, any ideas what species and if I can help him? (Ogden, Utah)

Poor little guy can't even fly and is missing some legs and a part of his antenna. Idk if he'd be better off if I just squished him or if there's a way I can help him live the rest of his life. For now I've got him in a quart sized glass jar with some flowers, twigs, and leaves for him to climb, and I've got a small capful of sugar water in there for him to drink. I also punched some small holes in the lid so he can breathe.

What is this thing I found on my way to work?

While walking to work I saw this thing, I thought it was a toy or something at first but then it moved. It seemed to be at least 10cm long. I live in Japan specifically the Kanto region.
