My Sony camera has an innovative laser grid autofocus system (which Sony calls "Hologram AF") to help focus in dim light.

This particular camera is a Sony DSC-V3, released in 2004 with an MSRP of $700 US. It was one of the very few cameras Sony ever made to include the "Hologram AF" feature that you see here - which is essentially just a 'class 1' laser diverted into a grid pattern - and while it is an innovative feature, the AF is very hit or miss depending on the subject you have the camera pointed at. The DSC-V3 also features a built-in infrared LED (which Sony called "Nightshot") for night vision capabilities. Eventually Sony dropped both these features a few years later, due to financial reasons as they were expensive to implement.
