can someone explain this?

Hi! I have a 4 month old black Kitten, Noob. Recently i’ve realized that his paws have been very dry and cracked but that cleared up once i started putting vaseline on them. Now, there is this dry and cracked scar that he licks it that’s under his paw pads and above his carpal pad. Does anyone know what this could be or if it’s something i should worry more about? (my mom is getting him some ointment for it soon and going to the vet soon)
