How Do Dogs Know What’s Edible?
How do dogs know which wild plants are edible and which aren’t? I have a rescue (cattle dog/pointer/hound mix) that lived in the wild for a bit as a puppy and she forages whenever she can. She’s always sniffing her way to something tasty and in the 7 years I’ve had her she’s never been poisoned.
Last week I saw her eating mushrooms in the yard which is what prompted me to post. I like to forage myself sometimes, but wild mushrooms make me nervous even with a guidebook in hand. Either somehow she knows that puffballs are edible and the other wild mushrooms here aren’t, or ??? Is this something I need to worry about, or is my dog just smarter than me? I know she’s smart, but I’ve had dogs my whole life and they never messed with mushrooms (or wild plants for that matter).
11 Month Pup has Bump on her Cheek
I want to start this off by saying I have a vet appointment booked already. I just want to see if anyone else has gone through this.
My pup has a hard, marbled sized bump on her cheek. It moves around and doesn’t seem to be bothering her when I touch it. I really hope it’s not a tooth abscess but I can’t find a lot of information on what those feel like!! I looked at her teeth and gums and they both look fine. Her teeth are actually in really good shape. She has also be shaking her head a lot since I’ve noticed the bump. Maybe it’s a lymph node??
I truly cannot find any information on something like this and it’s killing me. My poor baby girl.
Dog bump
Maltese dog
Female
12 years old / 10lbs
She has been spayed
South carolina
She had a cytopoint injection on Saturday for allergies. I noticed this on the very top.of her hind leg today. It doesn't seem to bother her but I am wondering what is it. It seems to be purplish on top and a very small hole. There is a small hard knot. She is in an inside dog .
Bleeding(?) or Irritated Paw
Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Age: ~7mos
Gender: Female
Description: We just finished walking her about 15mins ago and left her in the bedroom by herself while we took the other dogs downstairs to be walked. When I came inside I noticed her toe on her front paw looks bloody but when I touch it she doesn’t act like it bothers her. She plays very hard, I actually posted a week or so ago about her chipping her tooth (she’s fine) and she’s constantly jumping very high in the air. I just want to be sure her foot is fine, it’s not leaving any blood anywhere it just concerns me a little bit. TIA!
