Alternating grain glue-up

I am wanting to build a somewhat large bandsaw box and would need a blank that is ~ 12"x22"x4-6" thick (haven't really decided yet). I was thinking of gluing up separate blanks and joining them together by the finished design would make those joints weak. I was wondering if gluing up solid wood in an alternating grain pattern (like plywood) was a viable option. I have never really seen it done and was wondering if there was a reason for that?

Recently had new windows and interior trimming installed. There is now gaps between every window frame's bottom and the bottom trim with dry wall exposed. Some of it is cut smoothly, some in crumbles. Any DIY fixes recommended to fill in this gap and have it look presentable? Primed Pine. Thank you!
