How can I stop my stray-turned-adoptee from constantly trying to go back outside?
Hello everyone this is Dewey. I adopted him recently after he came up to me asking for food & water.
He’s been vaccinated, groomed, and soon will be chipped & neutered — but before that happens, I want to get him accustomed indoors. Only, he always seems unhappy to be inside. He’ll come in if I offer him food, but after he’s done he’ll start meowing loudly, and if I *still* ignore him he’ll start clawing at the door. He has no real interest in playing with toys or anything either… I’m not sure how to keep him preoccupied inside.
He’s incredibly sweet and affectionate, but recently some other strays have been bothering him outside and I really wish he would come inside already so that would stop! I know there’s a transition period for strays, but is there any way I can calm him down easier?
Thanks in advance for the help 💙
Seven year old female cat won’t stop urinating outside litter box
For context, she is in a two cat household with three litter boxes, two water dishes, and two food dishes to help with territorial issues. She eats only dry food because she doesn’t like wet food for some reason. The other cat in the household is a 3 year old male whom she tolerates but doesn’t like. She has had inappropriate urinating issues on and off for years, but this is the longest stretch it’s ever been (roughly 4 months). She will consistently pee in front of or near the litter box 1-3 times a day. It is only pee. She poops inside the litter box. We have taken her to the vet at least every other month for this. The last time she was at the vet was about three weeks ago and they tested her urine and it came back clear. They think it is behavioral and recommended transdermal Prozac once a day, which we have given her. She also has asthma and is given two puffs of an inhaler once per day. My husband and I are both home a good amount as I am currently in between jobs and he is hybrid remote, so I don’t think it’s an attention issue. We also have two canisters of Feliway in our 1100 square foot house. We have done everything the vet has recommended and more and she still won’t stop peeing. We don’t know what to do. We are stressed and on edge just waiting for the next time she pees. I also have taken a black light to the entire house to see if there are any urine spots that we are missing but can’t smell, but I cant find any. I even cleaned every fabric/carpet in our house with an enzyme cleaner. We specifically bought a steam cleaner for this purpose.
Giving her up or rehoming her is not an option. Despite the issues listed above, she is the light of our life and we can’t imagine it without out her. I am open to any suggestions your may have. Thank you for reading.
