Need help
Anyone know what is going on with my dogs legs? Lately he has been licking all his paws raw and they get scabs. They seem super dry so we have tried several paw creams to see if it helps but nothing seems to work. We have been trying to keep him in an inflatable donut so he can’t lick. Maybe it could be from walking in grass that’s coated in reclaimed water? Or maybe allergy? Or something else? Any help would be great
Any ideas on what we are looking at here?
So here are the stats: 13.5 year old beagle/shepherd mix, around 35 lbs
About a month ago, we went to the vet for coughing fits. Did an x-ray and found pneumonia. He was on a few medications for the infection and was given a nebulizer. He also had a growth on his right back leg, but that turned out to be arthritis after the x-ray.
Yesterday I find the attached in the photo. It also looks like the left side of his lip has been protruding from his face. He is getting another x-ray and possibly an aspirate this weekend. I just wasn’t sure if anyone had any clues about what it could possibly be?
Potty Training Puppy
My poodle puppy used to pee around the house a lot. Recently, I started to walk him like 2-4 times a day and he has started to pee and poop outside. Just today, when he was taken out of his crate, he peed on the floor. His pee pad was close to him but he decided to go on the hardwood floor. What can I do? Why is he making these accidents?
TPLO experience questions
Hey everyone, my 5yo GSD x Aussie mix has a partial tear of his right ccl that was diagnosed in March. We discovered his tear after some pretty bad limping after a frisbee sesh and got x-rays and mri to confirm. As any shepherd is, he is super high energy, we used to play a toooon of frisbee and go on hikes together but obviously have had to stop a lot of that. He has also been on a diet since then as well and has lost about 10 pounds.
He hasn’t had a episode of bad limping since then but he seems pretty stiff and has an odd gait after running… can’t stop the zoomies :/
At this point scheduling surgery is basically down to choice. The vet recommends it eventually but didn’t push for it to be done asap and basically told us to call to schedule when we’re ready. I can’t decide if we should go through with it now, before he tears completely, or wait a bit longer. Was anyone else in this position with a partial tear? I am terrified of getting him surgery but I feel awful that I can’t let him just be a dog and I miss our adventures.
Those of you that have gone through TPLO with your dogs, are they able to return to normal pre-injury activity eventually? I think his frisbee days are over regardless due to the high impact mid-air catching, but I would like to return to long walks and hikes without being worried about him completely blowing his knee out with one misstep.
Please let me know any long term success stories! I am a nurse so my mind races with potential complications whenever I think about it and just want the best QOL for him.
Dog kneading couch cushion
My 70 pound pittie is destroying the cushion on the couch that is for them. I have blankets on it all the time. But he does it so much he pushes it in the crack every night. Short of making it so they can no longer use the couch. Does anyone have any ideas on how to mitigate damages?
Dog door question
My florida room has a storm door and I need to somehow outfit it with a dog door. I have a 60 pound pitbull and the bottom below the window isn't big enough for a dog door. I opened the window and he can jump in and out of that just fine. I thought about mounting a piece of treated plywood where the window is and installing the the dog door in that. Has anyone done this before or have any other ideas? Thanks!
