What 1950s car is this?

In the 50s my grandfather would bring his car to Italy from the US. Visiting there now and finally got a picture. This is most likely taken 1954 or 1957.

Dad saw this, missing bumper

My dad thought this was a miata because of the pop up lights I’m also saying I love. It’s definitely circa 90s but I’m pretty sure it’s not a miata. Looks American rather than Japanese.
