What makes Sokka so cool as a character?

Settle a debate for me: How good would toph be in the middle of the sea

So with One piece live action, there are a lot of people from different groups, including my friends, who imagines and would argue that if Toph existed in the One Piece universe (just her, not including all the ATLA lore, but specifically being born blind and having the innate talent of bending earth). Would she be an effective crew. Given that one of the crew member in One Piece will make the outer layer of the boat metal. Will toph still be effective? Thoughts?
