The "headstone" of Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Bolinas, CA

I didn't know Lawrence Ferlinghetti (although our paths kind of crossed a few times over the past 40 years here in San Francisco, with people and events in common) but from what I've heard from mutual acquaintances, his "headstone" is right in keeping with his personality. It is uncarved; just a naturally round and weathered granite stone about the size of a mini-fridge. He certainly warranted a monument that recounted his many accomplishments and his stature in the literary world, but he opted-out, letting nature have the last word. Most cemeteries wouldn't allow such subversive understatement, but Bolinas . . . well, Bolinas has always gone its own way. Lawrence Monsanto Ferlinghetti (March 24, 1919, Yonkers, NY – February 22, 2021, San Francisco, CA) He packed a lot into his 102 years: poet, publisher, bookseller, social activist, antiwar protester, critic, painter, lover of many women.

"Billy -- taken by the angels" -- Bolinas, CA

I've been haunting cemeteries for about 45 years so far, and of all the photos I've ever encountered on headstones, this one feels the most touching and poignant -- the shadow of a boy in motion, cast upon an old wooden house. It's maybe 4" tall and set into his granite headstone. I knew nothing about Billy, but there's a lovely life summary on Find-a-Grave here: [https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/98651381/william-oskar-goggins](https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/98651381/william-oskar-goggins)

Literal "cemetery porn" (SFW) -- Bolinas, CA

I've frequently noticed this simple wooden plank with "E.H." hand-carved into it, but never took a close enough look to notice what this circular object set into the surface was, until last week. Looks like "E.H." (whoever he or she was) got the last laugh with this bronze token depicting a buxom lass (see photo below)
