Webb telescope peers into a stellar nursery 161,000 light-years away

If you look at the latest Picture of the Month from the James Webb Space Telescope, you are seeing dense clumps of gas where young stars are actively forming. The region, called LHA 120-N 159 (or N159), sits 161,000 light-years away in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way. The image spans about 230 light-years and reveals a turbulent cauldron of star birth. Why it matters: observing star formation in a neighboring galaxy helps astronomers understand how stars emerge from gas clouds under different conditions than in our own galaxy.

What do you find most fascinating about seeing star formation in another galaxy?
