Review

Combat revolves around vocation-specific skills and physical positioning-archers fire from ledges while fighters brace against charging beasts, and mages cast spells from safety. Players frequently reposition during fights because enemies target weak points and can grab or throw party members. Exploration rewards careful observation, since hidden caves, cliffside paths, and monster nests often contain rare items or alternate quest solutions. The world features dense forests, crumbling ruins, and bustling settlements rendered in detailed textures and dynamic daylight. Armor and clothing realistically catch wind or soak in water, and lighting shifts naturally from sunrise to torch-lit nights. Sound design emphasizes footsteps on varied terrain, distant monster roars, and the distinct clash of steel versus scales during encounters. This game suits players who enjoy building parties, experimenting with roles, and tackling large-scale battles without strict quest markers or time limits.

Jumped into Dragon's Dogma 2 for a quick session after work and wound up fighting the same cyclops three times because my main pawn kept wandering off the cliff instead of grabbing its leg. Got flung halfway across the field once and that felt fine, but the second throw came out of nowhere even though I was spamming the grab prompt.

The combat loop is brutal when you’re under-leveled, but it’s the kind of brutal you can learn. Still, the stamina drain on climbing bigger stuff turns every fight into a race I’m not always in the mood to run.

I don’t mind dying if I screwed the positioning, but losing twenty minutes because the AI decided the edge of a rock was more interesting than the monster is just annoying.
