Review

Combat systems center on weapon-specific movesets combined with wirebug launches for midair repositioning and silkbind attacks that interrupt enemy charges. Each fight demands precise timing on dodges and charged strikes rather than simple button mashing. Visuals display detailed creature models with visible damage states against backdrops of dense bamboo groves and volcanic ridges, while audio layers distinct footstep echoes, wing flaps, and impact sounds from different weapon types. The experience matches players who prefer methodical action loops over fast reflex shooters and who enjoy studying enemy behavior across repeated hunts.

I sat down thinking twenty minutes would be enough to try one fight. It stretched out because nothing resolves quickly.

You end up studying the same creature's attacks for longer than the actual fight takes. In MONSTER HUNTER RISE that means swapping tools when one approach stops working after a few dodges.

The pacing feels uneven once you're in. A lot of that time is just moving to the next spot or prepping instead of direct combat.

It hooks you into one more adjustment even when you planned to stop.
