Review

Matches revolve around resource management and prediction, with players chaining effects and responding to summons in layered turns that reward knowledge of card interactions over raw luck. High-definition card artwork and animations bring creatures to life during plays, while the soundtrack adapts tempo and intensity to match duel phases without overpowering the focus on board states. The experience suits dedicated fans of intricate card strategy who enjoy building collections gradually through free play, though it may frustrate those seeking quick sessions without ongoing investment.

The solo campaign was the only thing I planned to try. I told myself I would play just enough to see how the AI handles basic opening hands, then stop. Twenty minutes later I was still there, watching the same tutorial duel grind through the same scripted turn sequence.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel rewards patience more than it rewards curiosity. Most of the match time is spent waiting for the opponent or the AI to finish reading every single card text aloud in their head, so actual choices happen in short bursts separated by long lulls. That rhythm makes every single decision feel heavier than it probably is.

The free card packs are stingy enough that I keep cycling the same three starter decks, and the ranked queue feels like a paywall waiting to happen. I can already tell I will either spend money or burn out on the same handful of strategies the AI is willing to teach.
