Planet Zoo 2

DFace review of Planet Zoo 2. Filed under Simulation, Strategy. Editor rating 8/10.

Players construct and manage elaborate zoo complexes around the world, designing habitats for land-dwelling, flying, and fully aquatic animals while balancing guest flow, animal welfare, and financial demands. After the enclosures are thriving, they transition from zoo curator to conservationist, releasing animals into large-scale Wildlife Reserves and tracking their adaptation in open ecosystems.

The core loop alternates between precise habitat sculpting-adjusting terrain, foliage, and water depth for species-specific needs-and continuous oversight of veterinary schedules, breeding programs, and guest amenities. Once animals are prepared for release, the focus shifts to reserve logistics: tagging herds, monitoring migration paths, and intervening when populations stray too close to poaching zones. Visually, the game renders individual feathers, scale patterns, and water caustics at close zoom, then widens to sweeping vistas of savanna and reef. Audio shifts accordingly, layering keeper radios and distant tram bells inside the zoo with wind, insects, and herd rumblings once animals roam free. The simulation suits methodical planners who enjoy juggling dozens of overlapping timers and budgets; players uninterested in micro-managing nutrition charts or fence grades will likely feel overwhelmed by the detail required.

Tried Planet Zoo 2 again last night. The first hour felt like it was asking me to hold three different speed settings at once. Habitat building drags when every path tile has to line up or the guests just stand there.

Once the red pandas were settled, though, I watched one of them sniff at a new bamboo stand for a full minute, then flop onto its back. That single animation kept me tweaking the next enclosure instead of quitting.

The bigger problem is the endless guest management. I spent twenty minutes adjusting benches and signs just to keep the queue from blocking the path to the new aquarium wing.
