Told myself twenty minutes just to finish the one order. Two hours later I was still squinting at a hem that kept bunching because the thread kept slipping off the spool. The last coat came out fine, but that extra hour was pure spite from the machine.
The fight, if you can call it that, is just keeping the scissors straight while the fabric shifts under your hand. One bad cut and the sleeve’s short by a finger’s width. I lost one that way and it felt fair. Nothing random, just me being sloppy under the light.
Dressmaker doesn’t pretend it’s anything else; you cut, you stitch, you hand it over, and the customer either nods or asks for the waist moved again. I respect the straight line between what you do and what they say.
