What is your advice on adopting a second cat, so that my current cat and that one will get along (more context below)?
What about it?

So, this is my 2 year old female cat, Winter. I got her about a year ago and she’s an awesome cat, but seems to get bored very easily even with toys. She’s only lived with one other cat who didn’t like her much because that cat wasn’t friendly with other animals, but Winter seemed to want to play with that cat and has gotten along with other cats she’s met. Because of this, I’m looking to adopt another cat but I need some advice.
I would really like Winter to have a playmate so I was wondering whether I’d have a better chance of them getting along/bonding if I got a kitten (I know my cat DOES like kittens, she’s had her own litter, she’s fixed now) or if it would be okay to get an adult cat that’s around her age (1-5)? And would it be better to get a male or female?
I know my post is long so apologies for that, but any advice would be really appreciated! Thanks!
