What’s the best band aid for this…?
What about it?
Hey r/plumbing,
I went searching for mushrooms at my moms place in southern Oregon, found the source of the fruiting bodies!
Can y’all lend some advice about what to do here?
My analysis: there’s a systemic problem with the water quality that has led to this corrosion and probably the type of pipe (from the 80’s?). I think re doing the whole house’s plumbing is a good investment. But time and money and plumbers blah blah blah.
Right now I just want to cap the taped joint
(Yes, I did indeed try to tape it with gorilla tape. No, you guessed it, it did not do shit.)
Any advice on how to do it and with what type of material? Thanks in advance.
I’d love to get this fixed, even if it means less mushrooms ðŸ«
Do I need to replace the pressure valve in order to replace the handle?
What about it?
Posting this again here, I’m hoping some one can tell me if I need to replace the entire single pressure valve and cartridge if I want a new handle on my shower. I’m in the process of renovating my shower and I can do most of the work, just not 100 percent sure of the entire valve needs to be replaced. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated. I really enjoy and respect the folks in this community. Thanks!
Water Heater Leaking
What about it?
Water heater overflowed while we were out of town. There’s a little water on the slab below the cabinet, and the drain pan is totally full. Looks to me like the drain pipe is clogged, so the pan overflowed. I’m going to try to clean the line, but the pilot light went out and it’s out of commission. Is it safe to fire back up once it dries out? I don’t see any leaks anywhere off hand.
Valve dripping - is repacking required?
What about it?
Hello! Rookie homeowner here. This pipe leads to an outdoor water spigot. When I open the shut off valve seen in the picture, water will drip from the stem area. Is repacking required to fix this? Is this doable by me or is a plumber recommended? I currently leave it fully off unless I need to use the spigot, but that’s not very convenient.
Also our of curiosity, why would there be a second shut off valve a little to the left on the same line? Thanks all.
What is causing this on my toilet?
What about it?
I want to believe it’s hard water but my other toilet doesn’t have any problems like this one does. I’ve done two deep cleans on this toilet to restore it to a regular state but after a couple months it returns to this brown limescale like state. The red color is a new development. Is this a issue with the plumbing? I live in an apartment in Florida.
Water Hammer Arrestor Installation
What about it?
This is the orientation of the current installation.
I turned off the water while replacing a faucet. Turned it back on when completed, and now the dishwasher turns on but there is no water flowing to it.
Should the arrestor be pointing up?
Any suggestions?
I am a plumbing n00b. Thanks in advance.
