Any ideas on how to fix a backpack zipper

Hello my fellow earth savers! A year a go I bought a work appropriate backpack at a thrift store and recently the zipper broke ( I tried to take it to the dry cleaners so the lady can install a new zipper but she said she couldn’t because the material was too thick. Is the backpack done for? Any ideas?
