Quick F.Y.I for Starfield, the game actually informs you if a planet is barren and has no life. So you don't waste time landing on them if you don't want to.
These planets can still be mined for resources or built on if you want to set up a base there. Also the game can also procedurally generate things to do there too.
But if you only want to spend your time exploring planets with creatures, multiple biomes etc, you don't have to bother landing on the barren planets.
