Gus and gingivitis

Hi all, we adopted gus when he was one year old, a year ago on August 15th. In February of this year our vet told us he needed a dental cleaning due to gingivitis, this happened in April. We've taken action by giving him dental treats to supplement his wet food and we add anti-tartar build up into his water every day. We tried really hard to brush his teeth but he would never cooperate at all. I just noticed he definitely has gingivitis again/still, he yawned and around his teeth was noticeably bright red, I'm so sad and so stressed and don't know what to do. We just ordered baby suction toothbrushes and hope maybe he will brush his own teeth via chewing those but it feels like we aren't doing enough. Has anyone else dealt with this? Does anyone have tips or products that have helped?

How old are these little feral kittens?

I gave them some food but they are very feral and dont appreciate being touched. I live alone and I need to travel between two places located 3000km apart several times a year so its not very feasible for me to take them in. There are some free ranging dogs in the area but the kittens seem to be adept at evading them. Should I keep feeding them till they can fend for themselves? Sorry if I sound like a bit of an a-hole.
