I really am enjoying Starfield but why do my companions either disappear, choose to engage in fisticuffs rather than use their weapons, or this....?

My best friend of 20 yrs unexpectedly passed away last week. He was so excited for this game and I want to make him as my character.

I’ve seen a lot of very talented people on here making characters and wanted to ask if anyone could help me make this happen or give me any tips with the character creation page.
