Found today inside a water meter box. What is this wasp like creature??

What is this bug found in my dog’s water bowl? (Texas)

This dude was creeping around. Was about 2-3" in length. Just curious if there is a possibility of others or a nest as there is the likelihood of little kids and pets running around a house at Norris Lake.

North England- weird wasp/fly thing?

There’s this strange species of wasp/fly thing that only seems to exist in the garden outside my dad’s flat (right outside the window of me, an entemophobe As far as I can tell, it has the colour scheme and abdomen and wings of a wasp… yet, it acts like a fly? It’s also pretty small for a wasp. It’s totally non aggressive, will just crawl around on the walls in my room and not mind me one bit. It’s also strangely hesitant to exit through the open window. Does anyone know what this is? Is it safe to go to sleep with it in my room? How do I stop them from entering/get rid of them?
