Pembridge helm, 14th Century, England. It belonged to Sir Richard Pembridge (d.1375), one of King Edward III's knights, who fought in the Hundred Years' War between England and France. It is of the type that would have been worn at the Battles of Crecy in 1346 and Poitiers [1080x720] [OC]
A 1650's cabinet-on-stand for Queen Henrietta Maria, for her London residence, Somerset House. The striking two-colour effect of the veneer is created when cocus wood is endcut, allowing the chocolate heartwood to contrast with the yellow sapwood. Silver mounts with Henrietta's cypher. [1582x2000]
The Great Bed of Ware was made by Jonas Fosbrooke ~1590 of oak. It was mentioned in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night in about 1601, and Ben Johnson's Epicœne in 1609 and later in Byron's Don Juan and Dickens' The Holly Tree. It's 3.38m × 3.26m (10' × 11') and it's said to take 4 couples. [960×1231]
