What about it?

i am adopting a female bun from a breeder that shes retiring from breeding and i plan to get her spayed, but i was wondering if it's too late? will spaying her eliminate the chance of cancers and pyometra or is it too late because shes already had litters?

RHDV2 in Illinois

What about it?

Heads up if you are a bunny owner in the Chicago area! Rabbit hemorrhagic fever was detected in domestic rabbits in the northern Illinois. Get those bunnies vaxxed! If you live in Chicago, Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital has them in stock. My handsome lad, Bones McCoy, got his booster on Tuesday. https://brownfieldagnews.com/news/rabbit-hemorrhagic-disease-detected-in-illinois/

Advice for mats on wooly buns’ feet?

What about it?

Hi everyone, We’ve posted about this before, so apologies in advance. Buddy is a Fuzzy Lop, so he’s a wooly bun. He gets mats sometimes, but we’re vigilant about brushing him daily to curtail the incidence. He also gets mats on the sides and bottoms of his feet. Now, our vet advises not to trim the hair on Buddy’s feet. This advice is also on this forum. We understand that for most, especially non-wooly, buns the hair is essential as padding and prevents sore hocks. However, as a wooly bun, Buddy gets matted balls as large as cherries (~0.75inches in diameter) on the bottoms of his feet. These seem uncomfortable for him and we’ve seen him biting at them numerous times. We started trimming parts of the mats, but they build up quickly. Should we shave the matted balls? Thank you!
